You’ve been lounging on the Italian beaches and tasting wines out in the countryside of Tuscany for a couple of weeks, but you thought about all the fun you could have on the Amalfi Coast and wondered how someone would go from Tuscany to Amalfi Coast. You can get there in a couple of different ways, but due to the distance, the destinations don’t connect directly.
Depending on where in Tuscany, the region sits about 329 miles from the Amalfi Coast. You can’t do a day trip from Tuscany to Amalfi because of the distance between them. Driving in a car to Amalfi will take about 6 to 7 hours, depending on the driver, a train will take about 4 hours and 22 minutes, and a bus will take about 10 hours and 52 minutes.

How to Get from Tuscany to Amalfi Coast
From Florence to Amalfi, you can expect a 325-mile trip. Now, the way you choose to get there can lengthen or shorten the trip. Pay attention as I cover the advantages and disadvantages of each one and to help you choose the way of travel that works best for you.
From Tuscany to Amalfi Coast by Train
You can’t ride a direct train because there’s no Tuscany to Amalfi Coast train station. Instead, you would ride to the closest train station in Vietri sul Mare about 9.1 miles away. It costs about €35 to €110, depending on the train, and takes 3 ½ to 4 ½ hours from Tuscany to Amalfi. The train departs from Firenze S.M.N., and it has an average layover time of 19 minutes. Vietri sul Mare sits to the north of Salerno. The trains can get crowded, but this is your best choice due to shaving a couple of hours off the second best arrival time. Trains in general have a lot of benefits to riding them.

From Tuscany to Amalfi Coast by Bus
Tuscany has no direct bus routes to Amalfi, and the best way to take the bus would be to start with the train to Sorrento. From Sorrento, you hop on the SITA line 5070 bus. Just remember that if you go in the peak tourist season from June to August (see the best time to visit the Amalfi Coast), getting a spot on the bus can frustrate even the most patient travelers, but it’s a budget option. You need to arrive at the bus stop early to get a spot, and the bus is often late. The whole trip takes about 10 hours and 52 minutes.
From Tuscany to Amalfi Coast by Car
The biggest challenge of driving in Italy relates to finding a parking space. The parking spots in Amalfi often lack clear markings, and you may find yourself paying up to €3 per hour for parking, especially at the Amalfi beaches. They reserve most of the free parking for local residents. You can count on driving a car taking at least 6 hours to 7 hours, depending on your speed. Driving from Tuscany to Amalfi Coast gives you the advantage of being able to stop in charming small villages along the way, and you deal with the least for crowds.
Amalfi has cliff-hugging roads that will terrify drivers not used to it. Worse, they make you share it with road-hogging buses. I wouldn’t recommend this way because it takes an experienced driver.

Train Companies That Deal with the Tuscany to Amalfi Coast Route
You could even take the train from Tuscany to Amalfi. You can choose from two different trains that serve this line.
Italo
The President of Ferrari privately owns the Italo trains, and they ride the same tracks, suffer the same issue with delays, and go at the same speeds, making for few differences. However, Italo costs less than Trenitalia in many cases. If you cancel, they will issue you an 80% refund. You can buy a ticket on their page.
Trenitalia
Trenitalia plays the role of the national railroad system. Oftentimes, you get more frequent trains but it costs more than Italo. For rides over 2 to 3 hours like the 3 ½ to 4 ½-hour ride to Amalfi, you may want to pay more for comfort. Like with Italo, Trenitalia will charge a 20% penalty fee for cancellations.
